National Senior Center Month is celebrated every year in September, and this year is extra special as senior centers everywhere celebrated their 75th anniversary! In recognition of this milestone, CSI Senior Centers in Appling, Bulloch, Candler, Evans, Jeff Davis, Pierce, Toombs, and Wayne Counties all came together for a day of friends, fun, and great food. Seniors were transported from their Senior Center locations to The Cotton Patch Extreme in Hazlehurst on the morning of Thursday, September 20th.
As everyone arrived they took in the view of beautiful fish ponds as they greeted friends from their neighboring centers. The day began with an introduction and welcome by Diane Rogers, Community Services Director, and Bryan Singleton, CSI Executive Director. Following the welcome, seniors were free to explore the grounds, visit with friends, and bait their poles to try their luck at fishing.
Later in the morning, as everyone gathered in preparation for lunch, several seniors uplifted the group with songs and poems. Everyone in attendance sang along to lively versions of several hymns including, “This little light of mine”, and “Since I laid my burdens down”. Encouragement and inspiration were offered through the recitation of a poem instructing all to live in the moment. Several door prizes were also given to winning ticket holders, including a 32” TV donated by the local Walmart retail store.
Following the entertainment, seniors enjoyed a delicious meal prepared on site and donated by Ron Patel, CEO of The Cotton Patch Extreme. Mr. Patel was onsite for the events of the day and worked tirelessly to see that the needs of the seniors were met. When appreciation was offered for graciously hosting the event, Mr. Patel stated, “I am happy to do this for the seniors. I enjoy having them here and just want to make sure they have a good time and have everything they need.”
CSI is grateful to Mr. Patel and the staff that made this celebration a huge success. The senior centers operated by CSI offer daily activities, meals and special events throughout the year.
