If you or a loved one are a Medicare beneficiary, you understand how complicated it can be to decide which options are the best. Or how difficult it is to understand benefit notices that are mailed out once claims are billed. We are excited to announce that we now offer a program that can help.

Effective June 1, 2018, CSI began administration of the GeorgiaCares program for DHS Region 9. GeorgiaCares is a public-private partnership offered through the Georgia Department of Human Services, Division of Aging Services. The program trains and coordinates volunteers to provide free information and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers. By not affiliating with any insurance company and not soliciting or selling insurance, volunteers are able to provide factual, unbiased advice regarding Medicare plans.

Program volunteers help beneficiaries and their caregivers understand health plan choices, enroll in a Medicare plan that meets their needs, review Medicare Summary Notice(s), review Explanation of Benefits, sort through medical bills, assist in filing Medicare claims and appeals and help them apply for financial assistance programs to reduce Medicare out-of-pocket expenses.

CSI field staff have participated in the GeorgiaCares program as volunteers for years, aiding community seniors in regard to Medicare coverage. When the opportunity arose to take on administration of the program in our area it seemed a logical transition. Harry Zeigler will serve as the GeorgiaCares Program Coordinator for the agency. His experience with GeorgiaCares goes beyond the 15 years he has spent as a volunteer – he became acquainted with the program while seeking assistance for his mother to lower the cost of her prescription medications. Harry is excited about his new position and is looking forward to serving Medicare beneficiaries with their needs and concerns.

CSI will be serving DHS Region 9, which includes Appling, Bleckley, Candler, Dodge, Emanuel, Evans, Jeff Davis, Johnson, Laurens, Montgomery, Tattnall, Telfair, Toombs, Treutlen, Wayne, Wheeler and Wilcox counties. The GeorgiaCares program is available statewide. Assistance can be received by calling 866-552-4464, option 4.
